The Story Behind HeartSoul Ranch

It May Look Like I've Changed Directions...

If you've been following my work for years, you may have noticed something.

The language I use has changed.

The conversations I'm having are different.

You've probably seen me talking about HeartSoul Connection and wondered...

"Why the change?"

Some people may even think I've left horsemanship behind.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth is...

I haven't changed directions.

I've finally discovered how every part of my life's journey has always belonged together.

For more than fifty-three years, horses have been part of my life.

For more than twenty-six years, I've devoted myself to becoming the very best horsewoman I could be—not by learning how to control horses, but by learning how to earn their trust, understand their perspective, and become the kind of person they wanted to be with.

That journey has shaped every part of who I am.

But the story began long before my first horse.

It began with a little girl who discovered that animals felt safer than people.

I was born into a home where trust was fragile.

As a child, I experienced emotional, physical, and mental abuse. While the world around me often felt unpredictable, the family cats, neighborhood dogs, horses, birds, and even the wildlife around me became my refuge.

They never asked me to be someone else.

They didn't judge me.

They didn't hide behind masks.

They were authentic.

They loved unconditionally.

Long before I knew there was a name for it, I communicated with them.

I simply believed everyone did.

Looking back now, I realize those animals weren't just comforting me.

They were quietly shaping the person I would become.

At eleven years old, I received my first horse.

I didn't know it then, but that horse would begin a relationship that has now spanned more than five decades.

Horses became my greatest teachers.

They taught me that trust cannot be demanded.

Leadership cannot be forced.

Connection cannot be rushed.

And behavior always has a reason.

In 1987, I entered veterinary medicine.

For more than four decades, I've had the privilege of caring for thousands of animals through the lens of science, medicine, and careful observation. Veterinary medicine taught me to look closely, ask better questions, and never stop searching for answers.

But it also taught me something equally important.

Sometimes medicine explains everything.

Sometimes it doesn't.

There were moments when every test looked normal, yet I knew something wasn't right.

The animals were still communicating.

We simply weren't hearing the whole conversation.

As my journey continued, I found Reiki.

I deepened my understanding of energy, presence, and healing.

I began offering Animal Communication professionally in 2004—not because it was something new, but because I was finally ready to openly share a gift that had quietly been part of my life since childhood.

I immersed myself in Equine Experiential Education.

I became a Reiki Master Teacher.

I spent years gentling wild mustangs, where I learned that trust cannot be taken—it must be freely given.

I began teaching horsemanship professionally, helping women discover that the relationship they longed for with their horses wasn't created through better techniques alone. It was created through greater awareness, clearer communication, emotional regulation, patience, and trust.

Later, becoming a transformational coach helped me recognize something profound.

People and horses often grow in remarkably similar ways.

Neither responds well to force.

Both flourish when they feel safe enough to learn.

For years, these experiences looked like different parts of my career.

Horsemanship.

Animal Communication.

Reiki.

Transformation coaching.

Veterinary medicine.

I now realize they were never separate.

They were all teaching me the same lesson.

Then came one of the hardest seasons of my life.

After eleven years, we lost the ranch we had called home.

Our horses were moved an hour away and spent months living in pens instead of the pastures they knew.

Bruce and I spent nine months living in a twenty-nine-foot RV while searching for a place where we could all be together again.

For the first time in decades, I wasn't living alongside my horses.

I missed them deeply.

Not because they were my work.

Because they were my family.

When we finally arrived at HeartSoul Ranch, I thought I was simply bringing everyone home.

I had no idea the horses were about to bring me home too.

Over these past weeks, I've spent countless hours simply sitting with the herd.

No agenda.

No lessons.

No expectations.

Just watching.

Listening.

Being present.

And I began noticing things I hadn't fully seen before.

How trust quietly rebuilds after uncertainty.

How healing cannot be hurried.

How every relationship unfolds one conversation at a time.

How the smallest changes often become the biggest transformations.

Most importantly...

I realized something about my own work.

For years, I'd helped people understand what their animals were communicating.

Those conversations were powerful.

They brought clarity.

Hope.

Healing.

But one conversation wasn't the destination.

It was the beginning.

Because relationships aren't transformed in a single session.

They are transformed through continued understanding.

That realization became HeartSoul Connection.

Not a rebrand.

Not a new business.

Not a departure from horsemanship.

The natural culmination of everything I've spent my life learning.

Today, when I work with someone and their horse, dog, cat, or another beloved animal, I bring all of it with me.

The little girl who found safety with animals.

The horsewoman shaped by fifty-three years of partnership.

The veterinary professional trained to observe carefully.

The Animal Communicator who listens beyond behavior.

The Reiki Master who understands the importance of presence.

The transformational coach who believes healing begins within.

None of those paths replaced another.

They became one.

HeartSoul Connection isn't about fixing animals.

It isn't about quick answers.

It isn't even about Animal Communication.

It's about relationships.

It's about learning to see, listen, and understand in ways that create trust, deepen connection, and allow healing to unfold naturally.

Looking back, I don't believe my life's work has changed.

I believe I finally found the words to describe what the animals have been teaching me all along.

Because understanding isn't the end of the journey.

It's where healing begins.

If you've been part of my journey over the years, thank you.

Whether you've known me through horsemanship, veterinary medicine, Animal Communication, Reiki, or simply as someone who loves animals as deeply as you do, I hope you'll continue walking this next chapter with me.

HeartSoul Connection isn't the beginning of something new.

It's the coming together of everything I've been learning my entire life.

And if your heart has been quietly telling you that there's a deeper way to understand the animal you love...
